Legendary Eastern Philosophy:What’s in it for me?™

  • 2 Steps

About

Eastern Philosophy has always had a very similar goal to Western philosophy: that of making us wiser, less agitated, more thoughtful and readier to appreciate our lives. At the time that ancient Greek philosophy was blossoming, on the other side of the world a different set of philosophical traditions emerged within the Eastern Asian regions of India and China. Like Greece, both of these areas had complex social structures, sophisticated cultures, and, most importantly, systems of writing that enabled people to record their thoughts. But unlike Greek philosophy which was largely secular, Eastern philosophies were intimately tied to their respective religious traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism and Daoism. Christianity will be included since it exists in the East, too. Distinguishing Eastern philosophy from its religion is an issue of emphasis: its philosophy deals less with worship rituals and depictions of the gods, and more with larger questions of our relation to the cosmos. We speak with masters from each of these five philosophical eastern traditions. This will help you understand the lifestyles of others around the world. You will most likely learn to see through a new lens onto your own life philosophies and ethics.
